A clairvoyant father who killed the gardner and then was killed in prison, a mother who only cared about the father, two little boys, one who lived in a fantasy life world and disappeared when he was 13; the other who appears to be normal and whose only desire is to find his long-lost brother. And then people start to die in a most horrible way. Nikki and the team think they know who the killer is. Not only is he elusive, but UK's security service has tied their hands. What's going on? Some of the subjects gleened from story lines seen outside the main stream media. The character development is wonderful , as usual for Joy Ellis. Always appreciate when she keeps characters in past stories current and introduces new ones. The story is organic and doesn't fall into any template of a crime story. Rory, as always, had a rather ghoulish comment about poor Craig's death that I have to say I laughed at. I also enjoyed the "personal" bits about the other side of the officers, time spent in real life. Weddings and health problems still happen even when a psycho is on the loose. This book is like the first few in the series-a really good crime thriller with first class detectives. Nikki and Joseph doing what they do best working together with a great team working out how to catch the baddies but this time under extremely difficult circumstances. Little mention of Nikki's mum this time around which I missed a little bit but good old Vonnie was back briefly and the charming Rory with his dark humour. It was an interesting and unusual read albeit tiring and I did manage to get to the end. Don't think I will be reading any more by this author but everyone has their own tastes.
